Once I get my permit, what do I need to do before I can drive with my parents?

Any minor who has a driver’s education permit must complete behind-the-wheel training before applying for a driver’s license. This can include:

• 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a driving instructor or
• 12 hours of behind-the-wheel training with parent, legal guardian or an Alternate Permit Supervisor if there is no approved school offering 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training within 30 miles of your residence.

Minors under 18 are required to submit a written log document 50 hours of drive time, with 10 of those at night.
