What restrictions come with my driver’s permit?

The State of Colorado has the following restrictions on driver’s permits, which are outlined below:

Driver’s Education Permit Restrictions
• You are only allowed to drive with a driver’s education instructor or the person(s) who signed the Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship form. This restriction will be lifted when you reach the age of 18. You will then be allowed to drive with any Colorado licensed driver who is 21 years of age or older.

• If the person(s) who signed the Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship form (DR2460) does not have a valid Colorado driver’s license, they can appoint an Alternate Permit Supervisor to instruct the minor while driving. The Supervisor must have a valid Colorado driver’s license and be 21 years or older. The drive time completed with the Supervisor will count towards the required 50 hours to obtain a Colorado driver’s license. The person who signed the DR2460 form can also appoint another person who is a licensed driver over the age of 21 to supervise the minor. However, driving time will not count towards the 50 hours required.

Driver’s Awareness Permit Restrictions
• You can only drive with the person(s) who signed the DR2460 form or until you reach 18. This restriction will be automatically once you have reached the age of 18. Then you are allowed to drive with any licensed driver who is 21 years or older.
