What are the requirements to apply for my driving permit?

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has the following requirements for applicants who want to obtain a Class C Instructional Permit:

• You must be at least 15 years of age.

• Your parent or legal guardian must sign a consent form. Guardians will be required to present certified adoption or guardianship court papers.

• Your parent or legal guardian must have a Georgia driver’s license or identification card or the teen must submit a Proof of Residency document.

• You will be required to surrender any out-of-state learner’s permit, driver’s license or identification card.

If you previously had a learner’s permit or license issued in another state, a certified driving history must be submitted and dated within the past 30 days. The instructional permit is valid for two years from the date issued.
