When can I get my driver’s license?

The State of Kansas has three different types of licenses available for teen drivers who meet the following requirements:

Restricted Driver’s License
• You must be at least 15 years old but less than 16.
• You must be able to pass a vision test.
• You must have the approval of a parent or legal guardian
• You must have completed an approved driver education course.
• You must have held an instruction permit for at least one year.
• You must have completed at least 25 hours of supervised driving.

Less Restricted Privileges
• You must be at least 16 years old but less than 17.
• You must pass a vision, written and driving exam or submit a certificate of completion from an approved driver education course.
• You must have held an instruction permit for at least one year.
• You must have completed at least 50 hours of supervised driving, with 10 done at night.

Non-Restricted Driver’s License
• You must be at least 17 years old.
• You must pass a vision, written and driving exam or submit a certificate of completion from an approved driver education course.
• You must submit the 50-hour affidavit of supervised driving if under 18.
