Michigan Teen Permit Practice Test Description

For teens participating in Michigan's graduated drivers license program, earning a permit is a critical part of their driver's education. Let us help you prepare with our MI permit practice test.

Get Ready to Hit the Road With Our MI Permit Practice Test

Like many states, Michigan uses a graduated license program that allows teens under the age of 18 to gain increasing freedom behind the wheel as they gain experience and demonstrate their capability for being safe drivers. To earn your Michigan driving permit, a temporary instruction permit, you must be at least 14 and three-quarters years of age and enrolled in segment one of a driver's education program. This section of the program includes 24 hours of classroom instruction, six hours of hands-on education and four hours of observation. As part of your coursework, you will be expected to pass the SOS permit test.

Your segment one driver's education coursework should cover the information on the SOS permit test, but if you have questions, you can always review the Michigan SOS Drivers Handbook Manual. What is the best way to study? We recommend using our MI permit practice test. Take the test as often you like until you are fully comfortable with the material it covers and the way it asks questions. Doing so reinforces what you have learned about traffic laws and driving safely. It also allows you to become familiar with the types of questions you will see on the instruction permit test. This will help you build confidence and avoid nervous mistakes when you actually sit for the test.

One of the most extensive written exams in the nation, Michigan's written test evaluates your knowledge of safe driving practices and Michigan traffic laws. There are 50 questions. You must answer 40 correctly to receive a passing score. Once you have passed the written test and completed your segment one driver's education, you can go to the Secretary of State office to present the proper documentation and receive your Michigan teen permit. This level one license allows you to drive while being supervised by a licensed adult. You must maintain this license for at least three months before advancing to the next graduated licensing level. There are three levels in total. Each builds on the foundation laid by the prior experiences. Using our practice test is a fantastic way to ensure you have a firm grasp of the fundamentals you'll need to become a safe, full-licensed driver.
