Why Wait? Get Your License Today

In New York state, individuals under the age of 18 need to get a New York teen permit in order to drive in the state. According to New York law, drivers must be at least 16 or older to apply for a permit. Drivers under the age of 17 need their parents to sign a consent form, and the drivers also need to bring a parent with them to a local office. Those over the age of 17 don't need parental consent, but they do need a form that shows they took a driver education program before they take the DMV permit test.

Though a New York teen permit lets you drive a motor vehicle, you'll still have some restrictions on your license even after you pass the DMV permit test. You can only drive if you have a passenger over the age of 21 with a valid license in the vehicle, and you can only drive in certain cities in the state during specific hours of the day. You need to know the rules that apply to those with a permit because you might come across questions dealing with those topics on the New York driving permit test.

To get a New York driving permit, you need to score 70 percent or higher on the test. As the test consists of 20 questions, this means you need to answer at least 14 of them correctly. Our NY permit practice test comes with 20 questions that we pull directly from the driver handbook that is used by the state. The test randomly selects the questions, and if you take the test multiple times, you'll have the chance to answer questions from the various areas that are covered in the handbook. The NY permit practice test is completely free, so even if you take the test hundreds of times, you'll never be charged a cent.
