If you're about to take a Pennsylvania DMV motorcycle test, then you need to know something about the rules. The more prepared you are, the more successful the outcome.
First, you need to be acquainted with the motorcycle manual. Your knowledge of the material will be tested. According to the Pennsylvania DMV motorcycle test guidelines, a motorcyclist must have a Class M license. A Class M license only allows the rider to drive between sunrise and sunset. Those with a permit cannot carry any passengers, unless that person is an instructor.
The test comprises of two parts: a knowledge test and a practical on-road test. The knowledge test questions are taken from the Pennsylvania DMV motorcycle test motorcycle manual. You are required to know and to understand safety practices and the rules of the road. There are 35 questions on the written test, and you're only allowed to miss six if the rider is older than 21. If you're between 16 and 20 years of age, there are 45 questions, allowing you to miss eight. The practical on-road test will either be conducted in a traffic situation or in a specified off street area.
The written test includes knowledge on safe driving techniques, vehicle laws and road signs. If you fail the written test/exam you may need to reapply and pay an additional fee.
Pennsylvania law dictates that any rider who operates a motorcycle must wear a helmet unless they are over 21 years of age and has had a motorcycle (Class M) license for at least two years, or over 21 years of age and has completed a motorcycle safety course approved by Pennsylvania Department of Transport or the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
If you're a rider under 18 years of age, you must have had a permit for at least six months and have at least 65 hours of supervised riding instruction before you can take your skills test.
Also, as of August 2012, you need to take, and complete, successfully a Safety Program Basic Rider Course. You must successfully complete this course before you'll receive you motorcycle license.
All motorcyclists wanting to take the Pennsylvania DMV motorcycle test should give adequate study to the written test. This will save disappointment and a retest. Before going to the Pennsylvania DMV motorcycle test Center ensure you have all the right paperwork with you. This may include a birth certificate, passport, and Social Security card. Check what documents you need to take to the center before leaving home.
