What happens if I fail my CT Permit Test?

If you fail your CT Permit Test you will be able to retake the Permit Test after a waiting period of 14 days. You will have to pay another $40 testing fee. It's important to NOT rush retaking your Permit Test. Study thoroughly and reread the entire manual to give yourself the best chance of passing your written exam on the second try.

If you are over 18, you will need to maintain your permit for ninety days before you can take the CT Driving Exam. During that time, you will need to pass the Safe Driving Practices Course, taught through a commercial or secondary driving school. If you are under 18, you will need to either complete thirty hours of classroom training and maintain your CT Learner's Permit for 120 days or complete 22 hours of classroom training and an eight-hour Safe Driving Practices Course, where it is necessary to maintain your CT Learner's Permit for 180 days. In some cases, teenaged applicants will need to complete 40 hours of behind-the-wheel training. To be thorough, you should check with your local DMV office to make sure you are completing all the necessary requirements before you take the CT Driving Exam.
