What restrictions come with my driver’s permit?

The State of South Dakota has the following restrictions for permit holders:

Instruction Permit Restrictions
• You must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is 18 or older who has held a license for at least one year when driving between the hours of 6 am and 10 pm. The licensed driver must be seated in the front passenger seat next to you at all times.

• You must be accompanied by your parent or guardian when driving between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am. The parent or guardian must be seated in the front passenger seat next to you at all times.

Restricted Minor’s Permit
• You must be accompanied by your parent or guardian when driving between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am. The parent or guardian must be seated in the front passenger seat next to you at all times.
