When can I get my driver’s license?

When applying for a Connecticut driver’s license, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must have a learner’s permit for 120 days before being eligible to take the driver test if the 30 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of practice driving is taught by a commercial or secondary school.

• You must have a learner’s permit for 180 days before being eligible to take the driver test if home trained for the 22 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of attending a Safe Driving Practices course at a commercial or secondary school.

You and your parents must attend the two-hour parent-training course which is part of the 8-hour Safe Driving Practices course.
