How to Pass the Illinois Teen Permit Test

Everyone looking to obtain an Illinois teen permit must pass the written exam that covers traffic laws and road signs. Since nearly 70 percent of teenagers who take the SOS permit test fail on their first attempt, you should take the time to master the IL permit practice test.

Once you turn 15 years old and enroll in a driver's education course, you're eligible to receive your driving permit in the state of Illinois. After providing proof of identity and proof of enrollment in a driver's education course, it's then time to take the Illinois driving permit test. The permit test is administered at the local office of the Secretary of State. Passing the test will allow you restricted driving privileges until you turn 18.

The Illinois driving permit test currently consists of 35 different multiple choice questions. Knowledge of traffic signs will be covered on 15 questions, and the other 20 questions will cover the rules and regulations of the road. A score of 80 percent is needed in order to pass the test, which means that you'll have to answer at least 28 questions correctly. If you fail the test, you'll have to wait at least seven days before taking it again.
