Class B Permit Practice Test 4
Half of the employees in the trucking industry are drivers. Without these drivers, the supply chain process would be badly disrupted. Truck drivers ensure consumers do not have to deal with empty shelves at their local convenience store.
By pursuing a Class B CDL, you are making a decision to become a critical part of an essential industry. It is also a very promising industry with limitless growth opportunities. You just need the right push to get there.
Before applying for your Class B CDL, however, you must thoroughly prepare to pass the written exam at the DMV. Our free Knowledge Practice Test contains all the material you are going to cover in the final exam to help you prepare better and pass on your very first try.
What is the process of obtaining a Class B CDL?
The process of obtaining a Class B CDL typically takes the following route:
Researching the requirements
There are several federal requirements to qualify you as a Class B CDL applicant including age requirements, identity requirements, and medical suitability requirements, just to name a few. You should conduct your due diligence and find out from the DMV's official site the specifics of each requirement.
Obtain your commercial learner's permit (CLP)
Visit your local DMV office to apply for a CLP. Here, you will be required to complete several written exams spanning different topics. You will only be awarded your CLP once you've successfully completed these tests. The CLP allows you to start test driving.
Go through several screening layers
The aim of these screenings is to determine your ability to drive Class B vehicles. Class B drivers can operate highly safety-critical and sensitive vehicles like school buses, HazMat vehicles, and public transit vehicles, thereby requiring an extra emphasis on safety training. The screening may involve taking your fingerprints and running a background check on you.
Get your physical ability card
During your screening, the Department of Transportation (DOT) will require you to undergo a physical examination. The exam checks your vision, ability to see color (because of reading traffic signals), hearing, blood pressure, and cardiovascular health to determine your fitness to operate a CMV. Once you pass the test, you receive your medical examiner's certificate.
Complete a written test and a driver's test
Your CDL written exam will test your knowledge of the type of vehicles you intend to operate along with your understanding of traffic laws of the land. A driver's test is more practical to test your driving skills. Passing both these tests makes you an official Class B license holder.
Consider endorsements to grow your career
Obtaining your Class B CDL is simply an opportunity opener. To advance as a commercial driver faster, you will be required to take additional knowledge and skills tests that help you earn proper CDL endorsements. Some of the endorsements available for Class B license holders are:
- School Bus (S)
- Passenger Transport (P)
- Tank Vehicle (T)
- Hazardous Materials (H)
- Tanker and Hazardous materials (X)
