To earn your South Dakota driver’s license, you must be at least 16 years old. If you’re under 18 years old, you must also first earn a learner’s permit, which you can apply for once you’re at least 15 years old. If you’re under 18 years old, you must hold your permit for at least 6 months, if you also take a Driver’s Ed course, or 275 days if you do not. Teens must also total at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice hours. Then you can take your road test and earn your junior license.
