Michigan Teen Permit Practice Test Description

A vital first step toward becoming licensed, acquiring your Michigan driving permit means passing a challenging written exam. Our MI permit practice test is a handy study aid that can help you prep.

How Our MI Permit Practice Test Helps You Study

While teens 17 years old or younger must earn their license through Michigan's graduated drivers license program, individuals who are 18 years of age or older can bypass these requirements and begin work on immediately earning a regular driving license. The first step in this process is to visit the Secretary of State office to obtain your temporary instruction permit. To do so, you will need to provide documentation to prove your identity, Michigan residency and citizenship. You'll also need to pass the written SOS permit test. Perhaps the most intimidating part of the process, this knowledge test assesses how well you understand safe driving practices and the state's traffic laws.

Although teens participating in the driver's education classes required by the graduated drivers licensing program learn the facts from their instructors, you do not need to attend classes to learn the necessary information. Everything you need to know is in the Michigan SOS Drivers Handbook Manual. Are you worried you might miss something important? Test your knowledge with our MI permit practice test. Constructed to mirror the actual SOS permit test, our practice test helps you review the material you need to study, evaluate your own progress and become familiar with the types of questions that you will see on the actual test. Take it as many times as you want. Rehearsing with the practice test helps you gain confidence in your ability to pass the test. You will also find yourself growing more comfortable with the test itself, making it easier to avoid nervous fumbles when you actually go to take the real test.

With 50 questions, Michigan's written test is one of the longest in the nation. You will need to correctly answer 40 of these questions to earn a passing score of 80 percent and get your Michigan driving permit. This permit will enable you to drive under the supervision of a licensed adult for 180 days. You must maintain this permit for at least 30 days before you can apply for a Michigan drivers license. As you practice, be sure to visit our Michigan drivers license blog for safety tips, hints for passing your drivers license test and other news that drivers need to know.
