Why Our Practice Test Works
Defensive driving is something every driver needs to practice, but it is especially vital for motorcyclists because of their increased vulnerability to serious injury. To ensure that the individuals riding motorcycles on Montana's roads are as well-prepared as possible, the state has crafted a demanding written knowledge exam for people who wish to obtain a motorcycle permit. Questions on this comprehensive exam cover a wide array of topics that are important for motorcyclists. These include strategies for handling common situations that riders encounter, safe riding practices, safe practices for riding in a group, traffic laws, road signage, road surfaces, mechanical issues and equipment requirements. This information is readily available in the MVD's Montana Motorcycle Supplement.
If reading through the MVD's handbook has left you feeling overwhelmed, don't fret. Instead, take our motorcycle permit practice test. It's an easy way to assess what you have learned and what information you need to explore further. Repeat the test as often as you like, whenever you like. Doing so is a great way to review the facts you need to pass the motorcycle permit test. This is the exact same information you'll need to know to stay safe when riding on Montana's roads, so it is critical that you understand it. Once you're confident that you do, you're ready to face the MVD's real test.
To be eligible to sit for Montana's motorcycle permit test, you must hold a valid drivers license and be at least 16 years old. Fifteen-year-olds who have completed the proper driver education program may also try their hand at the test. It is a written exam comprised of 25 multiple-choice questions. Since our test is designed to imitate the real test, if you've studied with our motorcycle permit practice test, then you've seen questions like these before. Answer at least 20 of these questions accurately to receive a passing score of 80 percent. Once you've done so, you will be issued your Montana motorcycle permit, sometimes referred to as a motorcycle learner license. It is valid for one year and allows you to ride while being supervised by a licensed motorcyclist. Once you've gained some experience riding, you are expected to return to pass the skills portion of Montana's motorcycle test. Both the written knowledge and on-road skills test must be completed within one year to receive a motorcycle license.
