Preparing for Your Iowa Motorcycle Permit

The rules of the road for motorcycle operators are significantly different than that of a regular motorist. Diligent preparation for the test to acquire your Iowa motorcycle permit is a must. Our website provides tools, tips and resources that are sure to help you be fully prepared and confident come testing day.

The first key to passing the Iowa motorcycle permit test is to review and study the Iowa DOT Motorcycle Handbook. This manual contains every answer to the questions that you will see on your motorcycle permit test.

One of the most valuable tools you can use as you prepare is a motorcycle permit practice test. We offer a series practice tests with the aim of helping you feel confident and prepared.

How Our Motorcycle Permit Practice Test Works

Simulating the test environment is a key factor in passing any test. That's why we recommend that you take as many practice tests as possible before taking the official Iowa permit test. We offer 5 different motorcycle permit practice tests that allow you to see a wide variety of questions. Each of our tests can be repeated as many times as you wish. This helps establish the answers in your memory so that you will be able to easily recall them come test day.

Each test consists of 25 questions. In order to receive a passing grade, you must answer 80 percent of the questions correctly. As you work through our test, you may skip a question if you are not comfortable choosing an answer. Each of the 25 questions is multiple-choice. Once you have submitted an answer to a question, you will receive instant feedback as to whether you have answered correctly or incorrectly. The correct answer as well as an explanation to the rule in question will be supplied after any incorrect answers. After your test is complete, your score on the motorcycle practice test will be supplied, along with a complete list of all 25 questions and answers contained on the test. We recommend you study the answer sheet and then re-take the test until you are confident that you can answer all 25 questions correctly.

For further practice, we also offer a road signs and traffic signals practice test.
