IL Teen Permit Practice Test Description

For Illinois teens, the first step in being able to drive starts with obtaining an Illinois driving permit, a task that will require you to pass a few tests. To improve your chances, take our IL permit practice test.

Passing the SOS Permit Test with Ease

Many teenagers with the prospect of being allowed to drive are likely counting down the days. It's important to understand that the only way you can attain a drivers license is by first earning an Illinois teen permit. With a permit and on-the-road practice, you have the opportunity of becoming a fully licensed driver. To begin this process, the three exams you must pass are: vision-screening, a written test and an on-the-road exam. The written test requires a good deal of study and preparation if you are looking to pass it on your first attempt. The written exam is divided into two segments, one focusing on traffic laws and driving rules and the other on the identification of the many traffic signs throughout the state.

When you begin our practice test, you will notice that the questions are derived from Illinois traffic laws and driving rules, akin to what will be seen on the driving rules portion of the SOS permit test. Although the questions on each exam bear a striking similarity to one another, the ones on the practice test won't be the same as the ones on the permit test, due to the random layout of both. As such, while taking the practice test more than once will allow you to gradually improve your chances of acing the final exam, it won't provide you with the actual questions on the SOS permit test.

The IL permit practice test that you will need to pass contains 20 questions. You must answer at least 16 of these correctly, equating to 80 percent or more. The types of questions you might encounter include everything from what to do during dangerous weather conditions to the proper use of a turn signal. All of these answers and more can be found in the Illinois Drivers Manual. For further study techniques, take our Road Signs and Signals practice test.
