How do I earn my New York driver’s license?

To earn your New York driver’s license, you must be at least 16 years old and first acquire a learner’s permit (regardless of your age). For teen applicants under 18 years old, you must hold your permit for at least 6 months and also complete a state-approved driver’s education course along with at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice. If you’re at least 18 years old, you must complete a pre-licensing course. All drivers must pass a behind-the-wheel skills test to earn a full Pennsylvania driver’s license.
