New Driving Laws for California in 2012

Being that it is already July and you've probably been driving around town oblivious to these new laws, now might be the time to study what is new on the road. Most of these were passed by legislature in 2010 or 2011 and enacted January 1st, 2012.

Just like laws instituted previously, these are put in place to increase motorist safety, not to make you feel like your nagging mom is in your back seat.

Here are some of the new laws according to CHP News on December 29th, 2011. These aren't all the laws, but should be applicable to most drivers.

Failing your driving test means more paperwork, standing in lines, and going home with your tailpipe between your legs, so make sure you study upon these tips to prevent this trio of pain from happening.

100 Deadliest Days of Driving

Summer is just around the corner! It's almost time for beach getaways, out-of-town trips, and pool parties! But under all the summer fun is an unnoticed but real danger. Did you know that in the past five years alone, around eight teens aged 16-18 died every day from March to August? This tragic truth is backed by statistics. Given the trend, it's very likely that it will continue this year. It's easy to see why summer is the season of driving dangerously for teens. School is out, so many of them have much more time to be on the road.

Passing Bad Driving Habits to your Teen - Part 1

Whether parents like to admit it or not, they are teaching their kids bad driving habits. Safe Driving Tips for Driving Test - Unfamiliar Traffic Situations

Becoming a new driver can be daunting. With so many different steps of the process required in order to get a license, it is easy to get discouraged. There is some help out there, such as online tests to judge your knowledge of the road, but this is just on paper. Once you get behind the wheel and nerves kick in, it is tough to think on your feet. The knowledge you studied and thought you knew can find itself swallowed whole by an anxiety-ridden fog.

Sooo your kid is turning 16...

As your son or daughter nears his monumental sixteenth birthday he has visions of freedom and a set of wheels. You've already started hiding your car keys, triple-checking you've locked your car doors, and doubled up on your heartburn medication.

Deadly Distractions on the Road

Watching YouTube videos of cats swimming in a pool, backyard wrestling, or babies dancing can do wonders for passing the time. Doing it while driving can cause a multi-car pile-up, then a reunion at the pearly gates with your late Aunt Mildred.

I told you so, she'll scold you, with her finger annoyingly waiving in front of your nose.

Distractions are the leading cause of accidents on the road today and they are completely avoidable. Everyone has seen a driver feverishly texting on their cell phone as their car veers off the road oblivious to an impending disaster.
